We start at the grand stables where our guide will take you through the almost 200 year old history of the gardens. From Johan Bülow, the founder of the gardens and Lord Chamberlain to King Frederic VI, we gain insight into a young nobleman’s upbringing, education, career and downfall and his later thoughts and ideals regarding the creation of the romantic gardens at Sanderumgaard.
You will hear about Susanne and Erik Vind’s comprehensive project for recreating and reinterpreting the old gardens, and their thoughts, ideas and ideals concerning the project. You will learn of the interesting historic source material that has been the foundation for the restoration of the gardens, and passages from Johan Bülow’s autobiography and diaries will be read aloud.
We will stroll in the gardens and be presented with detailed accounts of the various monuments and statues in the gardens and we will enter four pavilions: Sommerlyst (Summer’s delight), Kildehytten (The spring hut), Tankefuld (Thoughtful) and Marieshvile (Marie’s gazebo). We conclude the tour in the rose and kitchen garden where we will enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a piece of cake in the coffee shop.
In the gift shop you will find a range of interesting high quality art, garden products, books, posters, cards and much more.
